Rugs Information
Rugs Shedding Wool Fuzz - New wool rugs often shed certain amount of "wool fuzz" that you may frequently notice while vacuuming, or notice them appearing s around the edges of your rug. This is normal and is due to loose fiber still sitting inside the rug pile, don’t be alarmed as this loose fiber, depending on its volume, will disappear in weeks or months, leaving behind the real yarn which is tied down to the foundation of your rug. The very first rug we sold to a customer was back in 1970 and she called complaining that the rug was coming apart, we assured her that she had a great rug and she needs to give it time for the loose fiber to be vacuumed off, she listened and 40 years later we made an offer to buy this Persian rug back from her at a profit and she said “don’t even think about it, I won’t part with my rug….”
Once the loose fiber is gone, you may vacuum as you desire and as needed. If you haven’t vacuumed a rug for a very long time, you may vacuum the surface then turn the rug over and vacuum it from the back, this will do two things; first it’ll clean the back of your rug, second it’ll beat and shake off the old dirt settled deep inside the rug pile to be shaken and moved towards the surface of the rug, turn the rug back and vacuum the surface again, you may even notice some dirt poured on your bare floor while vacuuming from the back.
RUG FRINGES – weavers often leave rug fringes longer than they should, thinking that the rug dealer or the rug customer can always cut them shorter to a desired length later. Ideally rug fringes should be cut short enough to stay put and straight, not too long collecting dust, fuzzy around, or move. If you feel that fringes of your rugs are too long simply straighten them and draw a straight line with a light-color marker where you’d like to cut them down to, get a pair of sharp scissors and hold and pull 4-6 strands of fringe at a time and cut where your line is. If too much work, then let Arizona Rug Company repair department or your local rug specialists do the job for you. 1-2 inches is the ideal range for the length of your fringes.
Never attempt on your own to apply bleach to whiten the fringes , this process is dangerous requires specialists work, as if you don’t rinse off the bleach fast enough your fringes may brittle and get damaged.
VACUUMING RUG FRINGES – when vacuuming your rug try to move your vacuum cleaner outward over your rug fringes from the rug surface out over the fringes towards your bare floor and not returning over them, this will pick up dust from the fringes but will not catch the fringes inside your vacuum cleaner beater bar. Old vacuum cleaners used to catch fringes, but the new ones are designed to do less of this and especially if you do not go against the fringes while vacuuming. |
